New releases: Reissues of Magazine’s ‘Play,’ Spacemen 3’s ‘The Perfect Prescription’

BACKSTORY: The U.K. post-punk act’s 1981 live album gets the expanded 2CD reissue treatment in the band’s home country, with the first disc containing the original 12-track set recorded Sept. 6, 1980, at the Melbourne Festival Hall in Australia, and the nine-track second disc featuring a previously unreleased concert recorded July 21, 1978, at the Manchester Lesser Free Trade Hall.

BACKSTORY: The 1987 sophomore release from Jason Pierce’s pre-Spiritualized space-rockers gets reissued in the U.K. yet again, although without any apparent bonus material.

BACKSTORY: Still best — or perhaps only — known for its 1987 semi-hit “The Great Commandment,” the German synthpop outfit this week releases an expanded 2CD edition of its 1995 studio album with bonus remixes and outtakes.
