The expanded 2CD reissue of This is Big Audio Dynamite — the 1985 debut from Mick Jones’ post-Clash project, Big Audio Dynamite, which featured breakout singles “Medicine Show,” “E-MC2” and “The Bottom Line”— was due to hit stores Tuesday, but now has been “bumped to 2010,” according to Sony/Legacy. No more specific date has been announced. The remastered set will feature a second disc full of b-sides and rarities, although, once again, no specific details have been revealed — although it’s worth noting the album’s singles featured a variety of remixes.
Due to production issues, Beggars Archive is expecting initial shortages of The Cult’s Love: Omnibus Edition four-disc box set when it’s released Sept. 21. Because the label is trying to only fulfill actual customers and record-shop preorders, it expects “supplies will run out on the day of release.” Further copies are due in mid-October.
Bernard Sumner’s New Order spin-off, Bad Lieutenant, will self-release its debut album, Never Cry Another Tear, in North America in partnership with with Amazon.com. Beginning Oct. 6, the album will be available for one week only as a digital download through Amazon. Then, on Oct. 13, it will be available for one month on CD exclusively through Amazon. Finally, on Nov. 10, the CD will be available through other non-Amazon retail outlets. The band also is planning to announce North American tour dates in the near future.
Sonic Youth recently taped an appearance on “Gossip Girl,” posing as a wedding band and performing “Starpower,” off 1986’s EVOL, for an episode set to air Oct. 12. Thurston Moore told Rolling Stone: “Kim (Gordon) and I are pretty fanatical viewers of the show. It’s sort of our dose of Shakespeare every week.”
