New releases: Kraftwerk reissues, new CDs from Mission of Burma, Lou Barlow

BACKSTORY: Although the release of its box set The Catalogue has been delayed until Nov. 17, this week still will see eight of the legendary German electronic collective’s classic albums — spanning 1974 to 2003 — remastered and reissued, although, due to clearance issues, three of the titles — Computer World, Techno Pop and The Mix — won’t be released in the U.S. and can only be bought as European imports or via the forthcoming box set.

ARTIST: Mission of Burma
RELEASE: The Sound The Speed The Light
BACKSTORY: The legendary post-punk act releases its third post-comeback album on Matador Records, making the band now more prolific than in its original ’80s run.

RELEASE: Goodnight Unknown
BACKSTORY: The Sebadoh frontman’s first solo effort since 2005’s Emoh was produced by Andrew Murdock, and features New Folk Implosion sideman Imaad Wasif and the Melvins’ Dale Crover on drums.

ARTIST: Grant Hart
BACKSTORY: The former Hüsker Dü drummer issues his first solo album in a decade, and his third overall. The nine-track, 30-minute disc was recorded in Montreal and Minneapolis, and features guest spots by members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Silver Mt. Zion and Rank Strangers.

ARTIST: Close Lobsters
RELEASE: Forever, Until Victory! The Singles Collection
BACKSTORY: The short-lived Scottish indie-pop outfit — one of the 22 bands included on the NME’s genre-defining and now-legendary C86 compilation cassette — releases a compilation of singles and b-sides spanning 1986 to 1989.

  1. It’s positively criminal that Computer World is only available as part of the boxed set…I’m basically being forced into buying “Techno Pop” and “The Mix”. Still PROBABLY worth it.
