The Alarm’s planned “Release the Pressure” tour of the U.K. this November and December has been bumped until April as frontman Mike Peters deals with his wife’s ongoing, and somewhat mysterious, health issues.
The Welsh rockers had been scheduled to play 10 concerts between Nov. 25 and Dec. 6; that trek now has been expanded to 12 concerts between April 14 and May 1, including an April 16 gig in Manchester with The Godfathers. (See full tour dates below.)
According to a lengthy post by Peters on TheAlarm.com, his wife, Jules, was diagnosed two weeks ago with deep-vein thrombosis, basically a blod clot high up in her abdomen. On top of that, she also is “suffering from a mystery viral illness” that she contracted while doing a Love Hope Strength Foundation charity climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Africa.
Jules Peters remains hospitalized, Peters writes, and may be discharged in another week or so, at which point she’ll need three months at home to recuperate.
“As you all know, Jules has a very important role in the management and structure of the Alarm’s touring logistics, and it is very important for her long-term recovery that she be protected from the pressures that a full-scale tour brings and (is) allowed the space and time to regain her health completely. As a husband and father, it is also my duty to be at home to care for Jules throughout her recovery and be there for our two boys, Dylan (5) and Evan (2).”
Peters apologizes to disappointed and inconvenienced fans, but promises “that the tour that will happen in April will be well worth the wait.” He also thanks his fans, on behalf of himself and Jules, “for being so understanding and for sending in so many messages of support during these most difficult times.”
Finally, Peters also notes the Alarm’s annual “The Gathering” weekend of concerts and fan interactions still will take place as scheduled Jan. 29 and 30 in Prestatyn, Wales.
