Video: Public Image Ltd. plays ‘Rise,’ ‘This Is Not a Love Song’ on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

The rejiggered Public Image Ltd. made its first U.S. television appearance in 18 years last night with a performance of “Rise” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” to promote the band’s upcoming appearance at the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival and subsequent U.S. tour (see video above).

The band also performed “This Is Not a Love Song” — or “This Ain’t a Love Song,” as Kimmel’s people have labeled it on YouTube — during the show’s closing credits, while John Lydon also sat for a Web-only interview with Kimmel (see those clips below). Perhaps they didn’t want to broadcast that part on TV on the off chance Lydon called his host a “wanker,” as he did during PiL’s last American TV appearance on the short-lived “The Dennis Miller Show” in 1992 (which you can watch here).

PiL opens its U.S. tour next Tuesday with a pre-Coachella set at Club Nokia in Los Angeles.

  1. Thx for posting this. Some funny moments in interview. John Lydon is awesome.

  2. Why would John Lydon call Jimmy Kimmel a wanker when he was already on the show several times doing stuff for the Sex Pistols?? WTF???? Who they hell pulled that out of their ass?

  3. He said “wanker” as a term of endearment. Like when friends joke around and call each other names.
