Video: Soundgarden plays ‘Beyond the Wheel,’ off 1988’s ‘Ultramega OK,’ at reunion gig

Two weeks after playing its first show since 1997 (billed as “Nudedragons”), the newly reunited Soundgarden has shared the first official taste of that Seattle gig: pro-shot video of the band performing “Beyond the Wheel,” a track from its 1988 debut album Ultramega OK. Fittingly, the six-minute slow-burner finds frontman Chris Cornell — who’s grown his hair back to a more appropriate grunge-era length — showing off that otherworldly wail of his.

  1. Ugh. The embrace of wannabe 70s cock rock like Soundgarden, The Cult and latter-day Gene Loves Jezebel was the beginning of the end for the whole college rock thing IMO.

  2. Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about!!! Bands like Stone Temple Pilots, Bush and other lame alt-rock killed college rock.

  3. i guess it depends on when you went to college? hehe
