Ian McCulloch fleshes out fall U.K. acoustic tour in support of expanded solo reissues

Echo & The Bunnymen frontman Ian McCulloch today announced additional concerts on his fall acoustic tour of the U.K. in support of the upcoming expanded reissues of his first three solo albums — 1989′s Candleland, 1992′s Mysterio and 2003’s Slideling — bringing the total number of dates to 13 so far in September, October and November.

As it stands, the trek opens Sept. 15 in Coventry and wraps up Nov. 23 in Sheffield, with quite a bit of time off in between; it’s not clear whether more concerts will be added. McCulloch promises to perform “songs from all Bunnymen albums and highlights of the last four solo records.” He’ll be joined by Lightning Seeds mastermind and former Bunnymen producer Ian Broudie, who’ll be backing him up on second guitar.

In a statement on Facebook, McCulloch says:

“On the upcoming solo shows in September and October I’ll be playing my songs in an even more stripped down way, because I feel the rawer they are the more powerful and poignant they are. I’ll be accompanied by my great and trusted friend Ian Broudie, with whom I feel I share similar reasons to sing and yearn and learn and sing about the meanings, in the dreamings of our lives. To any newcomers to my music and to avoid any confusion as to which Ian I am, I’ll be the one with the greatest voice in the history of time (and that’s a hell of a long time), and I’ll be the one who wrote ‘The Killing Moon.'”

McCulloch earlier this year released a new fan-funded solo album Pro Patria Mori, his fourth overall. On Sept. 17, Demon Music Group is set to release, in the U.K., expanded collectors’ editions of Mac’s first three solo records, each packed with bonus tracks including non-album singles, B-sides, live cuts and remixes.
