The Ocean Blue to release 2 new songs next week, play 2 live shows in January

Reunited indie-pop outfit The Ocean Blue is releasing its first new album in 13 years this January, but fans can get an early listen to two of the record’s tracks next week when they appear on a new compilation being released by Korda Records, the new label launched by the band’s David Schelzel and three fellow musicians.

The Ocean Blue also has announced its first live dates of 2013: a Korda Records showcase at Minneapolis’ 7th Street Entry on Jan. 12 with Typsy Panthre, The Starfolk  and Jim Ruiz, plus a headlining gig the following night at Schubas in Chicago. According to the band’s website, “More shows coming in 2013.”

The new album, the band’s first since 2000′s Davy Jones’ Locker, will be released Jan. 15 on Korda. No title, cover art or tracklist has yet been revealed, and it’s not clear which two songs will appear on the Korda Kompilation, due out Nov. 27.

The Ocean Blue released four major-label records between 1989 and 1996, and, in the years since Davy Jones’ Locker, a pair of independent EPs as well.  For the past couple years, the group also has posted Christmas singles, the latest of which you can still check out here.

The Ocean Blue tour dates:

Jan. 12: Korda Records Showcase, 7th Street Entry, Minneaspolis, MN
Jan. 13: Schubas, Chicago, IL

  1. New music & live shows from TOB. Exciting!!!

  2. Great news from a great band! Looking forward to the shows, 2013 is going to be a great year!

  3. New music and live shows? This news is almost too good to be true! Judging by the sound of some of today’s fine, young indie bands (Real Estate, Wild Nothing), The Ocean Blue had to be an influence on them. Now it’s time to show the youngsters how it’s done! Please come back to Milwaukee!
