Video: Tom Bailey plays Thompson Twins songs for first time in 27 years ahead of U.S. tour

Tom Bailey

The Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey took to the stage in a small club in the U.K. last week for an hour-long set that featured his first performance of his old band’s material in 27 years, a warm-up for his appearance at the Rewind South festival over this past weekend and his upcoming North American tour with Howard Jones and Midge Ure.

Below, you can watch Bailey’s nine-song set — during which he played “Hold Me Now,” “King for a Day,” “In the Name of Love” and more — in its entirety via Ian Priestley.

Bailey is co-headlining the Retro Futura 2014 tour — the rebranded Regeneration Tour — with Jones. In addition to Ure, other acts appearing include China Crisis and Katrina of Katrina & The Waves.

  1. Can’t wait for Orlando!

    • Me too! I remember the older thread from before the southern dates were added. I am happy to see that the organizers were indeed able to add Dallas and Orlando. I am planning on attending the Orlando show and am really looking forward to it!

PS. And it’s a very reasonable price for such a large, quality, bill!

I keep seeing this “in 27 years” notice. But the Twins kept going into the 90s. Did they quit touring in 1987 or something?

So, he’s doing a solo tour and trying to currie [sic] favor from audiences? Let’s give him some leeway.

Hey, SOMEONE had to post it!

  4. Thanks for posting this SUpE!

Thanks Tom and the superb girls from the band for a phenomenal performance from last week @Sub89 Reading ! The warm up gig was a worth while 27 year wait. The track list for the night was great. I was so overwhelmed with your performance! I had to shout out “We Love You Tom” Hoping for a Thonpson Twins Tour in The UK for 2015?!! All the best with the retro tour in the USA. :-) xx

  8. Just when I thought that I may not see a show this year. Orlando here I come. Great lineup. I have only seen one of these bands live. I saw Ultravox at the Keystone Palo Alto in Ca, in the 80’s.
