For this week’s installment of “120 Minutes” Rewind, we present this footage of J Mascis and Murph of Dinosaur Jr being interviewed by Dave Kendall in 1991 following the release of the band’s major-label debut, Green Mind. They discuss the new album, and the stuffed-animal-starring video for lead single “The Wagon,” which is included in this nearly 10-minute-long clip.
Then the discussion shifts to the departure of bassist Lou Barlow (both Murph and Mascis acknowledge they just couldn’t get along), and Kendall notes the band is looking for a new bass player. Not only are they looking for one, they’re apparently soliciting prospective bassists by asking them to fax the band’s management. (Mascis’ main requirement: “We have to get along with him somehow.”)
Barlow, obviously, is back in the band, and has been for some time. But in case that doesn’t work out, maybe the old fax number still works. Write this down, bassists: 213-854-3535.
