New releases: Wire, Marc Almond, Happy Mondays, Howard Jones, Vaselines, Neneh Cherry

This is a round-up of the week’s new albums, expanded reissues and/or box sets, appearing each Monday on Slicing Up Eyeballs. All releases due out this Friday unless noted. May also include some other titles released in recent weeks but not previously featured.



RELEASE: Mind Hive
BACKSTORY: The post-punk legends release their 17th studio album — a nine-song collection called Mind Hive — this week, and they previewed it with a pair of new songs off the record: “Cactused” and “Primed & Ready.”

RELEASE: Chaos and a Dancing Star
BACKSTORY: For his 24th solo album, the former Soft Cell frontman has written 13 new songs in collaboration with Ivor Novello-winning and Grammy-nominated producer, songwriter and pianist Chris Braide.


Happy Mondays

RELEASE: Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile (White Out), Bummed, Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, Yes Please!
BACKSTORY: The Madchester heroes’ first four studio album are reissued this week London Records in new vinyl pressings.


Howard Jones

RELEASE: One to One
BACKSTORY: Cherry Red Records this week releases a 3CD/1DVD expanded reissue of the synthpop legend’s third album, originally released in 1986. Features previously unreleased studio recordings and live tracks.


The Vaselines

RELEASE: “Son of a Gun”
BACKSTORY: Optic Nerve Recordings this week reissues The Vaselines’ classic 1987 single debut on 7-inch vinyl for the first time. Backed by the B-side “Rory Rides Me Raw.” Limited to 1,000 copies on colored vinyl.


Neneh Cherry

RELEASE: Raw Like Sushi: 30th Anniversary Edition
BACKSTORY: Neneh Cherry’s classic genre-hopping debut get a multiformat reissue this week, including 3CD and 3LP editions that include a remastered edition of the original album and copious remixes.


The Associates

RELEASE: Perhaps
BACKSTORY: The third album from The Associates receives a 2CD expanded reissue this week from Cherry Red Records. Features “all the related bonus tracks for which master tapes still exist.”
