XTC next month will reissue its 11th album — 1989’s Oranges & Lemons, featuring “The Mayor of Simpleton” and “King for a Day” — on 200-gram audiophile vinyl with remastered sound and a reworked sleeve “to present the front color image in all its psychedelic glory.”
The new 2LP pressing of Oranges & Lemons is due out Sept. 4 via Andy Partridge’s Ape House label, and can be pre-ordered directly via Burning Shed — or Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk.
The album hasn’t been available on vinyl since around the time of its original release. The new reissue, the eighth in the XTC Classics series, is mastered by Jason Mitchell at Loud Mastering with input from Partridge and “fully approved by XTC.” In addition to the reworked cover, the sleeve is now gatefold “to accommodate both the weight of the vinyl and the inclusion of song lyrics.”
Oranges & Lemons was last reissued as a 3-disc CD/Blu-ray edition in 2015, a package that included new 5.1 Surround and stereo mixes by Steven Wlison and numerous unreleased demos and recordings from work-tape sessions, s well as videos and more.
