Cruel World festival — featuring Morrissey, Bauhaus, Blondie, Devo — adds 2nd date

The pandemic-canceled Cruel World festival will not only come roaring back in 2022, but promoters today announced a second date featuring the same classic-alternative bill, topped by headliners Morrissey, Bauhaus, Blondie and Devo.

After quickly selling out the initial Saturday, May 14, 2022, date, promoter Goldenvoice has added a second date on Sunday, May 15, 2022. Both will take place at Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. — the site, next to the iconic stadium, of The Cure’s 2019 Pasadena Daydream festival.

Tickets, which range from $159 plus fees to $799 plus fees, go on sale first via a presale at noon Pacific on Wednesday, June 30, and then through the general on-sale at 2 p.m. Pacific that same day.

More details and presale sign-up at the Cruel World website.

In addition to the headliners, the bill includes Echo & The Bunnymen, The Psychedelic Furs, Violent Femmes, The Church, The English Beat, Public Image Ltd., Jay Aston’s Gene Loves Jezebel, Berlin, Missing Persons, 45 Grave, Christian Death and more.

Acts from the original 2020 lineup that are not included in the 2022 edition are Gary Numan, Marc Almond, She Wants Revenge and Bad Manners.

Two new bands have been added, though: The Damned and Automatic.

The festival originally was to have taken place May 2, 2020, at The Grounds at Dignity Health Sports Park, the home of the L.A. Galaxy soccer team, and that event quickly sold out before the pandemic upturned everything. It was moved to Sept. 12, 2020, and, ultimately, canceled by promoter Goldenvoice due to the “ongoing uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
