Founding guitarist Peter Koppes has left Australian alt-rock legends The Church for the second time “to explore his own musical path,” bandleader Steve Kilbey announced on Facebook today, while also revealing the group is at work on a new studio album. Full details right here.

Fans of Marty Willson-Piper who’ve missed his contributions to The Church since his departure five years ago are in luck: the singer-songwriter/guitarist is back with a brand-new studio album with Noctorum, the duo he formed in 2003 with producer Dare Mason. With their North American tour now underway, The Church have released the second single off Man Woman Life Death Infinity — the band’s 26th studio album, which is due to be released on Oct. 6. You can stream the new song, titled “Undersea,” in its entirety right here.

The Church will release what it’s billing as its 25th studio album next month, a collection of new material that’s been christened Further/Deeper and which marks the long-running Australian rockers’ first record without guitarist Marty Willson-Piper, who was “not available” and has been replaced by Powderfinger’s Ian Haug.
