Slicing Up Eyeballs marks first anniversary

Slicing Up Eyeballs

Today marks the first anniversary of Slicing Up Eyeballs, a site launched so very inauspiciously exactly one year ago today with a fairly modest goal: to report on and chronicle the past, present and future of all the great music that was collectively known, back in the ’80s at least, as college rock.

Hundreds of posts later — this is No. 504 to be exact — this after-hours hobby has become a fairly serious endeavor, but still operates under the maddeningly simple premise that if I write about the music I like, it’s bound to interest others who like that music, too. And sure enough, it’s worked. This site has attracted tens of thousands of readers over the last year, and I’ve heard from so many of you in the comments on this site, via e-mail, or on Twitter, Facebook or, now, Google Buzz. So if I haven’t already, thank you for reading, thanks for the news tips, and thank so much for the encouragement and kind words.

Finally, in the time-honored tradition of music-related top 10 lists, we’ll mark this anniversary by looking back at the site’s most-viewed stories over the course of its inaugural year. The rankings aren’t much different than the end-of-2009 list posted on Jan. 1, but there are a couple new additions — most notably this week’s massively viewed item on Alan Wilder performing with Depeche Mode that, after just three days on the site, skyrocketed to No. 3. (Although it’s not going to overtake the No. 1 slot anytime soon; let’s just say people are very interested in the Disintegration reissue.)

See the 10 most-viewed stories of the past year after the jump…
