BACKSTORY: Simple Minds lead singer Jim Kerr in Europe this week releases his first-ever solo album, working without longtime bandmate  Charlie Burchill for the first time. Instead, the singer enlisted the help of co-writer and producer Jez Coad, who previously worked with the band, producing Simple Minds’ Black & White 050505 in 2005.

BACKSTORY: The chief singer, bassist and prime songwriter of Australian rock outfit The Church this week issues an eight-CD, 169-track  box set that collects six of his solo albums — Unearthed, Earthed, The Slow Crack, Remindlessness, Narcosis + EP and Dabble — plus two compilations, Artifacts and Freaky Conclusions.

BACKSTORY: The 1990 debut from the Madchester vets receives a 2CD reissue this week in the U.K., with the original vinyl tracklist on Disc 1 (omitting “The Only One I Know”) and a second disc that includes B-sides from the “The Only One I Know” and “Then” singles, plus the full 1991 non-album “Over Rising” single and eight BBC session recordings.

BACKSTORY: With a brand-new album due due from the current incarnation of Robbie Grey’s New Wave rockers next week, Wounded Bird Records this week reissues the band’s fourth record on CD for the first time ever. The nine-track album, which features the single “Ink and Paper,” is not being repackaged with any bonus tracks.
