Vintage Video: Red Hot Chili Peppers make ’84 TV debut with ‘True Men Don’t Kill Coyotes’

For our latest installment of Vintage Video, we flash back to March 1984 to see the Red Hot Chili Peppers — long before they became sensitive alt-rock balladeers — make their television debut on the “Thicke of the Night” talk show’s one and only season. What’s especially noteworthy about this clip is that it features the short-lived lineup from RHCP’s first album, with mainstays Anthony Kiedis and Flea joined by guitarist Jack Sherman and drummer Cliff Martinez. Plus you get hear host Alan Thicke riff on the phase “bone-crunching mayhem funk” — and then get dog-piled by the Chili Peppers after their performance.

  1. Anthony must have been listening to some Germs before coming on the show because his vocal delivery sounds almost exactly like Crash Darby. :-D
