Hugely influential British post-punk outfit Gang of Four will support its first all-new studio album in more than 15 years — Content, which is due out on Jan. 25 on Yep Roc Records — with a 13-date North American headlining tour in early-to-mid February, the band announced on Wednesday.
The reunited group — featuring co-founders Jon King and Andy Gill, plus Thomas McNeice and Mark Heaney — will open its trek Feb. 4 in Toronto before hitting eastern cities such as Philadelphia, Boston and New York, followed by a West Coast swing from Vancouver down to Los Angeles, where the run of shows wraps up Feb. 21 (see full tour dates below).
The new album, Gang of Four’s first since 1995’s Shrinkwrapped, will be released on vinyl, CD and as part of something called an “Ultimate Content Can” that includes lyrics, artwork, a scratch-and-sniff booklet and — no joke — “vials of band members’ blood.” You can download one of the tracks, “Never Pay for the Farm,” here.
UPDATE 12/17/10: The band also has announced initial European dates in 2011, including an NME Awards Show on Feb. 2 in London, followed by eight shows in France, Belgium, Germany and Italy in March and April (see new dates below).
