RELEASE: Learn How: The Essential Mission of Burma
BACKSTORY: Fire Records this week releases, in the U.K., a new 2CD career-spanning overview of the resurrected Boston post-punk legends, compiling 29 tracks from both halves of the band’s career as both an introduction to the group and a preface to the label’s upcoming full-catalog reissue series (see full tracklist).

RELEASE: Party Clowns
BACKSTORY: A short 1991 live set at London’s Town & Country Club by the future Britpop stars that was filmed for British television is released in the U.K. this week. The disc includes just eight songs, including such tracks as “Space,” “Live On,” “Separations,” “Legendary Girlfriend” and “Countdown.”

ARTIST : The Damned
RELEASE: Damned Damned Damned
BACKSTORY: Previously reissued as a three-disc set, the punk legends’ 1977 debut is reissued yet again this week in the U.K. as a four-disc box set, this time adding a new DVD that features a “rare” hour-long documentary about the making of the album plus interviews with contemporaries such as Chrissie Hynde and Glenn Matlock.

ARTIST : The Jam
RELEASE: Classic Album Selection
BACKSTORY: Paul Weller and Co. this week, in the U.K., are treated to a new CD box set collecting each of the band’s albums released between 1977 and 1982, including In the City (1977), This is the Modern World (1977), All Mod Cons (1978), Setting Sons (1979), Sound Affects (1980) and The Gift (1982).

ARTIST : X-TG
RELEASE: Desertshore/The Final Report
BACKSTORY: Throbbing Gristle members Chris Carter, Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson and Cosey Fanni Tutti this week release, in the U.S. (it came out in the U.K. last week), a double album, including the cover of Nico’s 1970 album conceived by Peter ‘Sleazy’ Christopherson before his death last year, and another disc of new music.
