Robyn Hitchcock touring with Peter Buck, playing Colin Meloy-hosted 60th birthday bash

Robyn Hitchcock

Robyn Hitchcock will hit the road in the U.S. later this spring to support his just-released Love From London album, playing a series of dates on the two coasts with his latter-period backup band The Venus 3 and R.E.M.’s Peter Buck serving as opening act. Plus, he’ll celebrate his 60th birthday in San Francisco in early May with a Colin Meloy-hosted bash.

So far, Hitchock only has announced seven dates in late April, early May and early June (see dates below). Buck, who released his solo debut as a vinyl-only release last fall, is slated to open all dates, although it’s not clear yet whether he’ll be at the May 2 birthday celebration at San Francisco’s Fillmore. He also typically plays in The Venus 3 with ex-R.E.M. sidemen Scott McCaughey and Bill Rieflin.

Hitchcock, who actually turned 60 in early March, hasn’t revealed full details of the birthday event, other than to indicate it will be hosted by Decemberists frontman Meloy and that other guests are expected.

It’s not clear yet whether more U.S. dates are forthcoming.

On March 5, Hitchcock released his latest album, Love From London, featuring 10 songs that the singer-songwriter says “celebrates life in a culture imperiled by economic and environmental collapse.” Below, check out a pair of videos in which Hitchcock discusses the new record, track-by-track.
