BACKSTORY: Trent Reznor returns this week with his first NIN album in five years, a 14-song collection available in a variety of different formats and even alternate masterings. Songs include “Came Back Haunted,” “Copy of A” and “Everything,” among others debuted on tour this summer.

BACKSTORY: 4AD this week released, in the U.K., the giant 7-disc vinyl edition of the Last Splash 20th anniversary reissue, featuring the original record, a live album recorded in Stockholm, a collection of previously unreleased demos, non-album tracks and BBC session cuts and more (see full tracklist).

BACKSTORY: Shaun Ryder and Co. this week receive, in the U.K., one of Rhino’s ‘Original Album Series’ box sets, compiling the albums Squirrel and G-Man Twenty Four Hour Party People Plastic Face Carnt Smile, Bummed, Pills ‘n’ Thrills and Bellyaches, Live and Yes, Please.

BACKSTORY: Similarly, Rhino Records this week releases, in the U.K., an ‘Original Album Series’ box set pulling together five different releases from the classic shoegaze outfit Ride: Nowhere, Going Blank Again, Carnival of Light, Cosmic Carnival and Tarantula.

BACKSTORY: The 2012 comeback album from frontman Kevin Rowland’s reactivated Dexys Midnight Runners — the New Wave act still best known for its 1982 smash “Come On Eileen” — gets a belated U.S. release in digital form this week. It’s the band’s first new album in 27 years.
