BACKSTORY: Rock’s former Angry Young Man, Elvis Costello, this week teams up with ?uestlove and The Roots for a 15-track album that features such songs as “Cinco Minutos Con Vos,” “Sugar Won’t Work,” “The Puppet Has Cut His Strings,” “Wake Me Up” and more (stream now).



RELEASE: Defend Yourself
BACKSTORY: Following up last year’s comeback EP, Lou Barlow and Co. this week deliver their first new album in 14 years, which new label Joyful Noise Recordings claims “marks a return to the self-recorded DIY ethos of early Sebadoh albums (Bakesale, Sebadoh III)” (stream now).

RELEASE: Live in Athens 1987
BACKSTORY: Peter Gabriel this week releases on DVD and Blu-ray the newly restored and expanded “Live in Athens 1987″ — formerly the Martin Scorsese-produced concert film “PoV” — that was originally only available as part of last year’s massive reissue box set for the So album.

BACKSTORY: Terri Nunn and Berlin return this week with their brand-new seventh studio album, which is being billed as a collection that mixes the group’s traditional synth electro-pop with “contemporary electronic dance music” (enter to win tickets to the album-release event in Los Angeles).

RELEASE: Floodland
BACKSTORY: The Sisters’ classic 1987 sophomore album this week releases a new audiophile vinyl pressing from Mobile Fidelity Sound Lab. The album features the songs “Lucretia My Reflection,” “This Corrosion,” “Dominion/Mother Russia,” “Flood I” and “Driven Like the Snow.”

RELEASE: Live 1992
BACKSTORY: The latest in the series of reissues of David Gedge and Co.’s live tape series, this time the 11th cassette is paired with a previously unreleased live recording. This set features mixing-desk recordings of Wedding Present concerts in The Netherlands and London.
