Reformed Scottish duo The Vaselines this week issued a cheeky music video for ‘Sex With an X,’ the title track off their upcoming sophomore album — the indie-pop group’s first record in 21 years, and only their second ever.

New Wave/synthpop combo Animotion — which reunited in 2008 and have toured sporadically since — played a gig in Atlantic City, N.J., last weekend, and mixed in with its ’80s favorites (‘Obsession,’ ‘Let Him Go,’ ‘I Engineer’) came this surprise cover of Depeche Mode’s monster hit ‘Enjoy the Silence.’

With his 10th album, ‘Wake Up the Nation,’ vying for the prestigious Mercury Prize next month, Paul Weller is embarking on an extensive tour this fall that includes a pair of U.S. shows in New York and Los Angeles, a five-night stand in Dublin and concerts throughout Australia and the U.K.

Having marked the 30th anniversary of Ian Curtis’ death last May by performing Joy Division’s ‘Unknown Pleasures’ in its entirety, bassist Peter Hook will reprise that feat with a full orchestra this weekend at a U.K. festival before performing the record in Australia and the U.S. this fall and winter.

Re-teaming with producer T Bone Burnett for the fourth time, Elvis Costello this fall will release ‘National Ransom,’ an-all new album featuring the members of his recent backing bands The Imposters and The Sugarcanes, as well as high-profile guests Vince Gill, Jerry Douglas, Marc Ribot and Buddy Miller.

The surviving members of Factory Records post-punk outfit Section 25 next month will release ‘Retrofit,’ a remix disc — completed before the untimely death last February of frontman Larry Cassidy — that features 10 of the band’s favorite tracks ‘remade and remodeled using new technology.’

As teased last week, famed producer Trevor Horn today announced he’s reuniting The Buggles ‘for their first ever full live gig,’ a front-to-back, one-off performance of the band’s 1980 debut album ‘The Age of Plastic’ at a yet-to-be-revealed London venue on Sept. 28.

Andy Rourke of The Smiths is no longer part of the Manchester triple-bass supergroup Freebass, which also features Peter Hook of New Order and Gary ‘Mani’ Mounfield of The Stone Roses, according to a note posted on the band’s website.
