Keeping with our unfortunate tradition of mixtape lateness, this was supposed to have been finished and posted earlier this past week to serve as a nice pre-Halloween collection of goth, post-punk and darker tunes. This week’s new releases include new studio albums from Sonic Youth’s Thurston Moore, Billy Idol, Half Man Half Biscuit, Inspiral Carpets and Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox, plus reissues from The Pop Group and a six-disc box set of recent material from the reunited Dexys.

The Pixies will mark the 25th anniversary of their classic sophomore album Doolittle with an expanded 3CD, 50-track reissue this December that will feature, as bonus material, the record’s B-sides, two of the band’s Peel sessions in their entireties, and a full disc’s worth of demos.

After six years of eligibility, The Smiths were nominated today for induction as part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015, joining a list of nominees that includes Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, the late Lou Reed, Kraftwerk, Sting and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.

We interrupt our (somewhat sporadic of late) regular programming for a bit of housekeeping: Slicing Up Eyeballs is taking a bit of vacation, and likely will be incommunicado for the next two weeks. R.E.M. this November will unleash a mammoth video package documenting 30 years of live performances, award show highlights and TV appearances on MTV’s networks, a six-DVD set called “REMTV” that will collect 14 hours of material, including a new feature-length documentary called “R.E.M. by MTV.”

This week’s releases include brand-new studio albums from the Buzzcocks, The Vaselines and Stiff LIttle Fingers, plus a reissue of Big Country’s “Steeltown” to marks its 30th anniversary, a collection of David Byrne/Fatboy Slim remixes from their stage production about Imelda Maros.

A year after reissuing their debut The Hurting in a bonus-stuffed box set, Tears For Fears is set to do the same for their monstrously successful second album, with an ambitious, multi-format reissue of 1985’s smash Songs From the Big Chair due out this fall.

If you haven’t had a chance to catch The Dream Syndicate’s somewhat sporadic reunion, here’s a great look at Steve Wynn and Co. doing their thing. Filmed by KEXP last month during the Bumbershoot festival in Seattle, this half-hour set features three songs off the classic The Days of Wine and Roses plus a 15-minute version of “John Coltrane Stereo Blues.”

For any diehard fan of the Pixies, the just-published “Pixies: A Visual History” — a gorgeous, 215-page hardbound coffee-table book jammed with scores and scores of you-are-there photographs chronicling the ascent of the college-rock favorites — is a must-have.
