We’re not playing in Ecuador because people don’t play in Ecuador. But we’re playing Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Venezuela.’

Journalist Van Gosse, who trailed The Cure’s first U.S. tour in April 1980 on behalf of Melody Maker, has unearthed a long-lost cassette recording he made of the band’s first-ever American concert on April 4, 1980, at Emerald City in Cherry Hill, N.J. You can stream the entire concert right here.
The Cure played a 36-song set at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound 2012 peppered with surprises, including the first performance of ‘Fight’ since the ‘Kiss Me’ tour, only the third-ever performance of ‘The Caterpillar,’ a rare airing of ‘Dressing Up’ and the first-ever performance of B-side ‘Just One Kiss.’

There’s been no official word since last fall’s announcement by Robert Smith of plans for a series of archival releases, but this week ex-keyboardist Lol Tolhurst revealed that Smith is at work on a reissue of ‘Mixed Up,’ a BBC box set and a DVD release of ‘The Cure in Orange.’
Twenty-two years ago, Robert Smith sat for a half-hour BBC2 documentary about The Cure that aired Aug. 8, 1988, as one of 10 installments of the series ‘That Was Then… This Is Now.’
As promised, Robert Smith this week started streaming The Cure’s live performance of ‘Disintegration’ — recorded at Dallas’ Starplex Amphitheatre on 1989’s Prayer Tour — on the band’s microsite for the new reissue.
Last week’s goldmine of ‘Disintegration’-era demos and live tracks wasn’t the first time Robert Smith opened up The Cure’s archives online; in 2001, to mark the release of ‘Greatest Hits,’ he also posted 20 demos, live tracks and remixes, spanning the band’s entire career.
The Cure today launched a special standalone website dedicated to the upcoming ‘Disintegration: Deluxe Edition’ that features videos, liner notes and photos — plus streaming audio of 20 additional demos and live tracks that won’t be on the 3CD set when it arrives June 8.
Originally due out Feb. 16, the much-anticipated deluxe 3CD edition of The Cure’s 1989 masterpiece, ‘Disintegration,’ has been delayed again — this time until May.
