For this week’s installment of our “120 Minutes” Rewind series, we present this “120 X-Ray” segment on former Wall of Voodoo frontman Stan Ridgway. As you can see below, the segment, which aired June 11, 1989, delves into Ridgway’s time with the New Wave act then proceeds to his solo work.
Take a trip back to the 1983 installment of the US Festival — a four-day event over Memorial Day Weekend that year that drew an alleged 670,000 music fans into the middle of nowhere in California — with this 90-minute collection of footage from the fest’s “New Wave Day,” featuring performances by The Clash, INXS, Oingo Boingo, The English Beat and more.
This week’s new releases include ‘Ersatz G.B.,’ the 29th studio album from The Fall, plus new best-ofs from R.E.M. (‘Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage’) and Wall of Voodoo (‘Lost Weekend’), and expanded reissue of Cabaret Voltaire’s ‘Johnny YesNo’ soundtrack and Curt Smith’s solo effort ‘Mayfield.’

Wall of Voodoo this fall will receive a new, nearly career-spanning anthology — the 17-track ‘Lost Weekend: The Best of the I.R.S. Years’ — that combines the highlights of the band’s 1980s output recorded with original lead singer Stan Ridgway and the vocalist who later replaced him, Andy Prieboy.
Twenty eight years ago today, the first of what would turn out to be two multi-day US Festivals — envisioned by their organizer, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, as ‘Woodstock West’ — opened in blistering 110-degree heat at Glen Helen Regional Park in San Bernadino County, Calif.
This week’s new releases include ‘Live Voodoo,’ a concert DVD/Blu-ray from Jane’s Addiction; ‘Collection,’ a new 16-track compilation from The Stone Roses; a 2CD reissue of ‘Love: And a Million Other Things,’ the only solo album by Propaganda’s Claudia Brücken; and ‘Neon Mirage,’ a new CD from Wall of Voodoo’s Stan Ridgway.
