Parolophone Records today is marking what would have been David Bowie’s 71st birthday with the digital release of a previously unheard demo version of the singer’s 1983 hit single “Let’s Dance,” the fruit of his collaboration with Chic guitarist Nile Rodgers. Stream the full song right here.

Some personal news from Reeves Gabrels — guitarist for The Cure and former David Bowie sideman — got major play today, as his wedding to Susan Van Wie Kastan, a marketing communications consultant, landed a write-up in the New York Times’ wedding section. No word whether Robert Smith will be there.

Depeche Mode has been performing a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes” on its Global Spirit Tour for the past several months, and today the group released a music video for a studio version of the cut in honor of the iconic song’s 40th anniversary. Watch the full video here.

As they build up to the release of their new album in a few weeks, Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys of Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark stopped by BBC Radio 2’s “Chris Evans Breakfast Show” on Friday to perform four songs — including a cover of David Bowie’s “Heroes.” Watch it here.

Luna — Dean Wareham’s reunited post-Galaxie 500 dreampop act — will put out its first new music since 2004 in September with the simultaneous release of a 10-song covers album called A Sentimental Education and a 6-song instrumental EP titled A Place of Greater Safety.
