Quick Spins: Jane’s Addiction, Alison Moyet, Morrissey, Ian McCulloch, Roger O’Donnell

Jane's Addiction, circa 2009

The early-2000s lineup of Jane’s Addiction — with Chris Chaney manning the bass instead of original member Eric Avery — will end the decade at a relatively tiny club in Aspen, Colo. The band is set to play Dec. 31 at the 450-capacity Belly Up Aspen — for a whopping $265 a ticket. According to Xiola.org, Avery can’t make the NYE gig, but will rejoin the band for its Australian tour in February.

On the heels of this fall’s career-spanning The Best Of — 25 Years Revisited, former Yaz singer Alison Moyet is prepping expanded, two-disc reissues of her first four solo albums: Alf (1984), Raindancing (1985), Hoodoo (1991) and Essex (1994). Each album will be remastered and include a second disc featuring B-sides, 12-inch remixes and other period-specific tracks. Tracklists haven’t yet been announced for the reissues, although they are expected to begin arriving in early 2010.

According to The Late Night TV Page’s listings, Morrissey will take a break next week between dates on his short West Coast tour to perform on the new “Lopez Tonight” late-night talk show on TBS on Dec. 9, perhaps as a nod to his well-known and vocal Latino fanbase. Or maybe Moz just likes George Lopez.

Although Echo & The Bunnymen scrapped last month’s eight-date American tour “due to unreasonable demands” from the IRS, frontman Ian McCulloch is scheduled to deliver a rare acoustic performance at 9 p.m. Thursday at New York’s Other Music. The first 25 customers to buy the Bunnymen’s new album, The Fountain, got tickets, while the rest will be divvied up first-come, first-serve the night of the in-store.

As promised, Roger O’Donnell, former keyboardist for The Cure, has begun giving away free downloads of his solo albums, for a limited time each. Starting today, fans can download 1994’s Grey Clouds Red Sky here through Monday. O’Donnell also notes on his Web site that he expects to begin posting his Disintegration memories by the end of the week: “I’m just scanning a few last sordid photographs and crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s on all the sex and drugss scandals hahahaha.”

  1. You mean Yazoo, not Yaz (and the Plastic Population)!

  2. Depends which side of the Atlantic you’re on.
