You can’t say they’re not persistent: Organizers of the Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival apparently continue to make offers to land a reunion of The Smiths to headline the annual festival, with Morrissey reporting this week that he has yet again turned down an offer to have the defunct indie giants top the 2013 bill.

Although he’s already premiered a couple tracks and released a video, Johnny Marr today debuted the video for the first official single from his upcoming solo album The Messenger, a David Barnes-directed performance clip for the song “Upstarts” that you can check out right here.

The 1991 self-titled debut from indie supergroup Electronic — featuring New Order frontman Bernard Sumner and guitarist Johnny Marr of The Smiths, with the occasional assist from Pet Shop Boys singer Neil Tennant — will be reissued this spring in a 2CD special edition featuring eight previously unreleased bonus tracks.

As promised, former The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr will embark on a spring U.K. tour following the release of his new solo album, ‘The Messenger,’ with 10 dates announced this week in March, culminating with a show in his hometown of Manchester. Also, check out new song “The Right Thing Right.”

As he ramps up for the release of his new solo album early next year, Johnny Marr has been appearing on some U.K. radio programs, most recently recording a session for Dermot O’Leary’s show on BBC Radio 2 earlier this week that aired today. Johnny Marr today premiered the first song off his forthcoming solo record The Messenger by releasing a starkly black-and-white video for the album’s hypnotic title track — which you can watch right here. The album, written and produced by the former Smiths guitarist, who also handles vocal duties, is due out Feb. 26.

Next month, the new 700-page biography of The Smiths by music writer Tony Fletcher finally comes out in the U.S. — the book, which promises “the complete story” of the iconic band, hit stores in the U.K. in early September — and publisher Crown Archetype has given us a dozen copies to give away to Slicing Up Eyeballs readers.

Since quitting The Smiths in 1987, guitarist Johnny Marr has played with a wide variety of acts, from Talking Heads and The The to Electronic, Modest Mouse, The Cribs and even his own short-lived band, Johnny Marr + The Healers. Early next year, though, he’ll finally release his first proper album under his own name.

The reunited Dinosaur Jr will celebrate the 25th anniversary of ‘You’re Living All Over Me’ this December with a concert in New York City that will feature a meeting of the six-string minds, with legendary Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr set to trade licks with J Mascis on “a song or two,” according to the band’s website.

Morrissey continued his American media tour Tuesday night, following up last week’s appearance on “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” with a highly entertaining visit to “The Colbert Report,” during which Moz withstood ribbing from Stephen Colbert on topics such as the British monarchy, vegetarianism and, of course, The Smiths.

In a completely expected turn of events, representatives for both Morrissey and Johnny Marr reportedly have each denied the rumors of a reunion by The Smiths that once again circulated online this week following Moz’s claim that Coachella was willing to go entirely meat-free in exchange for a headlining performance.

Couple times each year, the Internet goes a flutter with wild rumors that The Smiths finally will reunite, and it appears we’re in the midst of another round, thanks to a recent interview with Morrissey himself and a totally unverified report that the band will reunite next year for four concerts in England, possibly headlining Glastonbury.
