David Byrne returned to “Saturday Night Live” last night for his third appearance in four decades, performing the Talking Heads classic “Once in a Lifetime” and the far more obscure cut “Toe Jam,” which he recorded in 2008 with Fatboy Slim’s The Brighton Port Authority project. This week’s releases include brand-new studio albums from the Buzzcocks, The Vaselines and Stiff LIttle Fingers, plus a reissue of Big Country’s “Steeltown” to marks its 30th anniversary, a collection of David Byrne/Fatboy Slim remixes from their stage production about Imelda Maros.
When The Housemartins split in 1988, the band vowed never to reunite. That remains as true, according to bassist Norman Cook, aka Fatboy Slim, who this morning told a BBC radio interviewer that it would take an equally unlikely reunion of The Smiths to spur his bandmates into action.
Kraftwerk will make a rare appearance on these shores when the group joins the newly reunited New Order at the electro-centric Ultra Music Festival in Miami next March as part of the first phase of the three-day fest’s lineup, which also includes Tiesto, Justice, FatBoy Slim, M83 and David Guetta.

Although they only issued two studio albums during their mid-’80s career, The Housemartins — the UK’s self-proclaimed ‘fourth best band in Hull’ — this week will be anthologized with at least their fourth best-of album, although it’s not quite clear whether the new set features any previously unreleased material.
This week’s new releases include new albums from David Byrne & Fatboy Slim (‘Here Lies Love,’ about Imelda Marcos) and Robyn Hitchcock (‘Propellor Time’), plus expanded reissues from David Bowie, The Colourfield and Squeeze.
