Matt Johnson this week announced he’ll release a new 7-inch by The The for Record Store Day next month, a single called “I WANT 2 B U” that finds the musician writing and recording with the “quirky Omnichord instrument” for the first time since he used in on 1983’s “This Is the Day.” Hear a short sample here.
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Depeche Mode continues its celebration of the 12-inch single with the latest in its series of vinyl box sets, this one celebrating 1990’s mammoth Violator album with a 10-disc collection of the various 12-inches released to promote that record. The 4AD label next month will release remastered editions of the Cocteau Twins’ first and fourth studio albums — 1982’s Garlands and 1986’s Victorialand — on 140-gram black vinyl, completing the effort to put all of the band’s studio albums back in print on vinyl. Details right here.
Joy Division and the band’s famed art director Peter Saville have teamed up with London fashion retailer Goodhood to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Unknown Pleasures by reissuing the album on ruby red vinyl and in a white sleeve “resembling the original design idea.” Full details here.
