Today we count down the best reissue of 2012 as voted on by Slicing Up Eyeballs in this year’s readers poll, and the Top 10 list includes releases by Icehouse, Ministry, The House of Love, Ian McCulloch of Echo & The Bunnymen, Yazoo, Bob Mould’s Sugar, My Bloody Valentine, Peter Gabriel and more.
This week’s new releases include expanded reissues of Peter Gabriel’s ‘So’ and Heaven 17’s ‘The Luxury Gap,’ plus a new live CD/DVD set from The Mission, the previously unreleased original demo tape from Rites of Spring, a new album from XTC’s Andy Partridge and Peter Blegvad, and vinyl release from The B-52s and Ultravox.
Peter Gabriel’s currently in the midst of his Back to Front Tour, which finds him performing 1986’s ‘So’ in its entirety each night during the North American trek. But on Saturday night, fans got an extra dose of nostalgia, as John Cusack — yes, Lloyd Dobler himself — came on stage to present Gabriel with a boombox.
Peter Gabriel is whetting fans’ appetites for his upcoming So 25th anniversary deluxe box set with a new video that offers an animated walk-through of the eight-disc set, which features four CDs, two DVDs, two vinyl records and a 60-page book. The box set is due out Oct. 23.
Peter Gabriel is offering fans the first taste of the visual component of the upcoming reissue of his ‘So’ album in the form of this 1-minute clip of “Sledgehammer” from the newly restored “Live in Athens 1987” DVD — formerly “PoV” — that will be included in the deluxe box set version of the reissue.
Back in May, we brought you initial news of Peter Gabriel’s plans for a multi-format, belated 25th anniversary reissue of his classic 1986 record ‘So’ — and now comes word that the album will be the subject of an 8-disc “Immersion” box set featuring four CDs, two DVDs, two vinyl records and a 60-page book.
Before he gets to his belated 25th anniversary tour and reissue of ‘So’ this fall, Peter Gabriel will release a newly restored, HD version of his Grammy-winning 1994 concert film ‘Secret World Live’ — filmed over two nights in November 1993 in Modena, Italy, during the tour for 1993’s ‘Us’ — on both DVD and Blu-ray.
Peter Gabriel will celebrate the 25th anniversary of his classic ‘So’ album with a deluxe multi-format reissue plus a 13-date North American tour dubbed “Back to Front,” which will find him performing the album start to finish backed by members of the same band he originally toured the album with.
Peter Gabriel is soliciting his fans for any ‘So’-era memorabilia they may still have as he continues work on a 25th anniversary reissue of the 1986 album for release next year — a package that may include a re-edited, full-length version of the Martin Scorsese-produced concert film ‘PoV.’
Although his catalog was just put back into print last month, Peter Gabriel is planning a full series of new reissues in 2011, including an expanded 25th anniversary edition of his crossover smash ‘So’ packaged with mixes, demos and new artwork.
